Training description
The postgraduate degree (The first AI Compliance Officer postgraduate in the world!) offers an in-depth insight into the world of AI regulation and compliance. Students acquire in-depth knowledge of ethical guidelines, legal frameworks and best practices needed to design, implement and manage AI systems in compliance with European and Belgian regulations. Through a combination of theory and practical cases, students learn how to identify and manage risks, address ethical dilemmas and develop effective compliance strategies for various industries and application areas.
Graduates of the AICO postgraduate are well equipped to play a crucial role within companies to ensure AI systems are compliant with legislation. This postgraduate degree trains participants to become Artificial Intelligence Compliance Officers.

Our approach
Ai principles
- The student can explain what AI is, what technologies exist and what impact AI has in our society.
- The student can explain the basic concepts on AI and can apply these concepts.
AI and regulation :
- The student can explain the legislative framework on AI and can apply it in an exercise.
- The student can define the applicable data legislation for an AI project.
- The student can define the security principles for an AI project.
- The student can perform a compliance assessment and can prepare the necessary documents for this purpose.
- The student can explain which rules apply in terms of liability and intellectual property rights.
AI governance
- The student can develop a policy for the roll-out of an AI system within an organisation, acquiring the following skills:
- manage and assess risks
- knowing which stakeholders to involve
- manage the algorithms behind the system
- knowing which compliance management software exists and how to use it
- understanding the technical characteristics of AI insofar as they are relevant to governance and regulation
AI ethics
- The student can explain the ethical dilemmas that arise when building and using AI systems.
- The student can integrate ethical principles into the decision-making process on AI within an organisation.
Human-centred AI:
- The student can define change management challenges when rolling out an AI system within an organisation.

Objectives
What can you do after the training
Upon completion of the postgraduate degree, students will be able to:
- Act as the central point of contact within the organisation for questions regarding AI regulations and ethics.
- Be able to assess AI projects and systems in terms of potential risks, ethical dilemmas, and legal considerations.
- Independently design and implement stakeholder management plans.
- Develop compliance frameworks that help organisations comply with relevant regulations related to AI.
- Be able to implement policies and procedures that follow ethical standards and legal obligations.
- Be able to correctly interpret and use digital and/or automated AI Governance, Risk & Compliance platforms.
Exam/certificate
The evaluation for the modules on AI principles and regulations consists of a take-home exam (30%).
The evaluation for the modules on AI governance, ethics, and human-centred AI consists of a case test (70%) in which the student develops a realistic solution to a situation from professional practice. The student presents the case in class and elaborates a short written report.
After passing the take-home exam and the case test, the course participant receives the PXL certificate: ‘AI Compliance Officer Postgraduate’.
